Essential Oil Dilution & Safety Calculator — Safe Ratios for Skin, Diffuser & Topical Use

🪤 Essential Oil Dilution & Safety Calculator

Calculate the exact number of essential oil drops needed for safe topical use, massage blends, and diffuser recipes. Includes age-appropriate safety guidelines, skin sensitivity charts, and carrier oil recommendations.

ℹ️ Why Dilution Matters: Pure (undiluted) essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts. Most are 50–100x more potent than the plant itself. Applying undiluted essential oils directly to skin can cause chemical burns, sensitisation, and permanent allergic reactions. Always dilute in a carrier oil before topical use.
🚨 Critical Safety Disclaimers:

1. Never use undiluted essential oils on skin — except lavender and tea tree in very small spot applications by experienced users.

2. Patch test always: Apply diluted blend to inner wrist or elbow crease. Wait 24 hours before full application.

3. Photosensitivity: Citrus oils (lemon, bergamot, lime, grapefruit) cause photosensitivity. Do not apply to skin exposed to sun for 12–24 hours after application.

4. Pregnancy: Many essential oils are contraindicated during pregnancy. Always consult your gynaecologist before using essential oils during pregnancy.

5. Children: Children require much lower dilutions. Many oils are unsafe for children. Never use eucalyptus, peppermint, or rosemary near children under 10.

6. Eyes and mucous membranes: Never apply essential oils near eyes, ears, nose, or genitals.

7. Internal use: Never ingest essential oils unless under supervision of a qualified aromatherapist or doctor.

8. Blueberry Botanicals is not responsible for adverse reactions from use of this calculator.
